Long-Term Hygroscopic Thickness Swelling Rate of Hydrothermally Treated Beech Wood / Polypropylene Composites

چکیده

Long-term hygroscopic thickness swelling rate of polypropylene (PP) composites filled with thermally treated wood flour was investigated. The beech chips were heat at 120 °C, 150 °C or 180 for 30 min using saturated steam in a digester. based on PP, (BF), and coupling agents (PP-g-MA) made by melt compounding injection molding. weight ratio BF to PP controlled 50/47 all blends. amount agent fixed 3 wt.% formulations. Further study conducted model the composites, parameter (KSR). thermally-treated samples ºC lower than that control samples, followed min, respectively. Furthermore, BF/PP decreased increasing time temperature thermal-treatment. In addition, showed samples. KSR influenced both thermal treatment.

Evaluation on the Effect of Wood Flour and Coupling Agent Content on the Hygroscopic Thickness Swelling Rate of Polypropylene Composites

The effect of wood flour and coupling agent content on the hygroscopic thickness swelling rate of polypropylene composites was investigated in this study. To meet this objective, the wood flour was compounded with polypropylene and coupling agent in an internal mixer; then the samples were fabricated by injection molding. The concentration was varied from 40 to 60% for wood flour and from 0 to ...

Structure and Properties of Wood/ Polypropylene Composites

Composite wood products have traditionally relied on thermosetting polymers like phenol-formaldehyde and urea-formaldehyde resins as binders. The continuing need to effectively utilize lignocellulosic fiber from lowquality hardwoods and from recycling streams has prompted consideration of new composites based on thermoplastic polymers [ 1,2]. Much of the development effort has focused on commod...

Stiffness Prediction of Beech Wood Flour Polypropylene Composite by using Proper Fiber Orientation Distribution Function

One of the most famous methods to predict the stiffness of short fiber composites is micromechanical modeling. In this study, a Representative Volume Element (RVE) of a beech wood flour natural composite has been designed and the orientation averaging approach has been utilized to predict its stiffness tensor. The novelty of this work is in finding the proper fiber orientation distribution func...

Predicting Thickness Swelling of Hot-pressed Wood Strands

Strand board can be manufactured from sawmill residues, branches, and crown wood left in the forest. The thickness swelling of these residues is quite different from that of mature wood and can have a negative effect on the physical and strength properties of strand board. A mixture of these materials and pressing conditions can be optimized by assessing thickness swelling of wood strands after...

Characterization of Laccase-Treated Kenaf Fibre Reinforced Recycled Polypropylene Composites

Raw and laccase-treated kenaf fibre (KF) were used individually to reinforce recycled polypropylene (RPP) using extrusion and injection moulding. Laccase was used to modify the surface of the fibre to improve the compatibility between fibre and matrix. Enzyme concentration and soaking time were considered as the treatment parameters. Maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (MAPP) was used with a...
